Acquisitions
I'm looking to buy established UK businesses in B2B services, health, wellness and leisure, with annual revenue of £2 million or more.
I've built and sold three businesses of my own. I know the price matters. So do your team, your clients and what comes next.
If you're thinking about selling, stepping back or planning ahead, let's start with a private conversation.
Discuss a possible saleYou don't need to have made a decision. We can first see whether there's a fit.
What matters to you
Selling a business is a big financial choice. It is also a personal one.
You may want more time, a fresh start or less weight on your shoulders. But you still care about the people, clients and name you have built.
I want to understand what matters to you before we discuss a deal. That includes the price, when you want to leave and what you hope will happen next.
You should have room to ask questions, take advice and decide in your own time.
Why me
I've built and sold three businesses since 2007. Each sale meant deciding when to let go, who to trust and what came next.
My work spans marketing, sales, operations, finance and people. I look at how the whole business works, where it depends on the owner and what the team needs to grow.
My aim as a buyer is to build on what works and give the business a sound next chapter.
The fit
The business does not need to be perfect. Sales may still rely on you. Systems may need work. The team may need more support.
I'm interested in understanding both what works and what needs to change.
After the purchase
Before buying, I want to understand why clients choose you, what your team does well and where the business relies on you.
We would discuss where I see room to grow, what I might change and what still needs checking.
That could mean stronger sales, clearer roles, better systems or less pressure on one person.
You should be able to question the plan and judge whether I'm the right next owner.
Funding
Price is one part of a deal. When you receive it and what it depends on matter too.
Early in our talks, I'll explain the proposed funding route, what would be paid on completion and whether any payment would come later.
We'll discuss any conditions, including finance that still needs approval, before you decide whether to go further.
You and your advisers can assess the full proposal before agreeing terms.
Selling direct
You can speak with me about your business, your goals and what a sale could look like.
If you already work with a broker, accountant or solicitor, they are welcome to join the conversation.
Before sensitive information is shared, we'll agree confidentiality terms and how the information will be used.
As talks progress, you'll know who needs to be involved and why.
The handover
We'll look at who does what, where key knowledge sits and what support people need. We'll also discuss how and when to tell them about a sale.
We'll plan how to pass on key relationships and keep the service running well through the change.
We'll discuss the value in the name and agree its future as part of the deal.
You may want a full exit or time to hand things over. We'll agree the work, time and pay for any role after the sale.
The plan should give you a clear view of what you're handing over, what remains your responsibility and when you can step away.
The process
You tell me about the business, why you're considering a change and what matters most. We see whether there could be a fit.
If we both want to go further, we agree confidentiality terms before you share sensitive information.
We discuss the business, price, funding and handover. If there is a basis to proceed, we set out proposed terms and what still needs checking.
The business, finances and legal position are reviewed with the right advisers. Any issues are discussed before final terms are agreed.
If both sides choose to proceed and the conditions are met, we complete the sale and follow the agreed handover plan.
Common questions
No. We can talk while you're still weighing up your options. A first conversation does not commit you to a sale.
I'll look at its earnings, cash flow, clients, team, risks and room to grow. We'll discuss the basis for any offer and the terms that sit behind the price.
That depends on the deal. Any proposal will make clear what is paid on completion, what may be paid later and what those later payments depend on.
We'll agree that together. It depends on what you want and what the business needs for a sound handover.
We'll discuss who needs to know, at what stage and how they should be told.
Yes. Relevant introductions from brokers and advisers are welcome.
Not ready to sell yet?
You may want to improve the business before choosing your next step.
If you plan to stay and lead, a growth partnership could be a better fit. I work with founders for an agreed equity stake, a share of revenue growth or a mix of both.
